Otto von Bismarck- Some say he was the greatest and noblest of Germany's statesmen and some say he was a devious politician who abused his power and lead his nation into dictatorship.

realpolitik- Meaning "the politics of reality", the word described tough power politics with no room for idealism.

kaiser- German for emperor.

3)
His thoughts differ from a liberal's because the way he wants issues or problems to be solved is not by political decisions but only by war. Liberals wanted to make peace instead of war. Bismarck wanted war so he could get more territory for Prussia. By blood and iron, I think he means the blood of the enemies and the iron of the guns and weapons. If you were to answer questions or solve problems politically it would bring you nowhere in his opinion. He said that was the great mistake of 1848 and 1849, so therefore he would rather fight it out on the battlefield then answer to politicians and government.

4)
I don't think Spain had the right to control South America because they were already in control of themselves and they didn't need anymore people to tell them what to do. The land isn't even theirs and they think they can control the countries in South America because they have a strong army. After Spain lost the war, South America had more power because many leaders were taking charge and they were driving away the Spanish.

Pg 574 SKILL BUILDER
1. The chart and graphs help explain the political cartoon because the first estate (the clergy) and the second estate (the nobles) were higher in political and social status than the third estate (peasants, cooks, servants, artisans, merchants, and others) therefore that is why the cartoon shows a picture of 2 people, one a member of the clergy, and the second was a member of the nobles, on top of a stone that is on top of a third estate member. the third estate member is under the stone which is under the feet of the clergy and noble members.
2. The first and second estate might be opposed to change because they make up only 2 percent of the entire population while the third estate made up a great 98% of the population. So if they had votes the members of the third estate would win by a landslide because of the great deal of people they had. Also they might be opposed to change because the change might be better for the third estate and worse for the first and second estate.

Pg  575 CONNECT TO TODAY
1. The rich and the poor have many differences. To see the difference you could look at what they wear such as their accessories, jewelry, clothes, and shoes. If someone has nice Jordan's, a north face book bag, diamond earrings, and a big silver necklace, you could tell they are not poor because of their belongings. You could also tell if someone is poor by looking at their hair. If someones has highlights in their hair and they just walked out of an expensive salon with their hair done, looking good, and smelling nice, most likely they have a good amount of money. Also and in my opinion the most crucial thing to know if someone is rich or poor is their estate or the place where they live. If someone live sin a small 1 bedroom apartment where the electricity goes out a lot and you need to use candles for light the person is most likely poor and if someone lives in a 4 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, basement, 3 floor house with a nice garden they are very rich.
